If you’re like me, you go CAN CRAZY at the supermarket when you see a 2 for 1 deal. It’s a DEAL. How can you turn it down? No matter how many times Ike has tried to explain to me that, yes, the majority of the time you still get the deal if you only buy 1 of the items, I still need both. For some reason I’m always insanely jealous of those people with shopping carts filled to the brim with their weeks worth of food. By comparison my little basket filled with Chobani and beer is pathetic so I end up in the soup aisle buying 10 cans of Progresso for $10.
As you can guess, this leads my pantry to be chock full of non-perishable food items that are taking up space and keeping me from stocking up on what really matters.
I’m sure I’m not the only one that does this and the smart folks in Troy’s Little Italy are using our hoarder tendencies to do some good! This Saturday, from 11-5, a stickball tournament benefitting Rensselaer County food pantries will be held at the Little Italy Market Place. Entry into the tournament is a donation of non-perishable food items. The flyer doesn’t mention it, but please, no expired goods. Your can of expired cream of mushroom soup does no good (it’s always the cream of mushroom soup. ALWAYS.).
So come play stickball with us! Take bets on how long we go without actually connecting to the ball!
HINT: A very long time.
